High school students gather in Buckingham Browne & Nichols Upper School in Cambridge to assist their classmates they observed struggling academically towards the start of COVID.
The in 2020. an entire group of Cambridge students from private schools took on the challenge to help.
BCT was an idea from a student who wanted to improve his school. He created this site to raise awareness about the issue and encourage action.
Our organization has been serving students since July 2017. Since then, our organization has served more than 400 children across the region at no cost. This year, we will serve approximately 200 children.
The tutors go beyond teaching math skills. They teach their students about the importance of being open minded, having good communication skills, self control, respect, and many other important qualities.
Min was a student alongside rising seniors Rahdin Salehian who is 16 of Lynnfield as well as with fellow high school seniors Graham Bateman, 17, from Concord and Madera Longstreet-Lipson Grace Brosnan, Tasha Roseman, Julia Torrey, Madeleine Brodeur as well as Christian Bateman.
Salehian stated that Min was aware of that tutors were needed after they listened to their siblings and friends complain about the difficulty of adapting to online learning. Salehain shared that her younger sister who goes to Lynnfield Public Schools, Lynnfield Public Schools, also was having a difficult time adjusting to this new way of learning and he was aware of that the impact of online learning required a wider coverage.
"I became a tutor at the time COVIDbegan]" Salehain stated.
He was in a class with one of his seventh-grade students during this summer in the year 2020 and they worked on the finer details that are part of French I. He was very satisfied with the journey.
"Since April 2020, I've had a possibility of tutouring three students in the 9th Grade Mathematics Class Writing Reading & Basic Writing at the Elementary Grade" said Graham.
After BC&N obtained the status of a non profit organization, Buckingham Browne & Nichols upper school was capable of helping the organization by providing additional resources.
Graham said that he was thrilled to be working with International Institute of New England. They continue to provide after school tutoring services for immigrant families. Their programs include Homework Helpers, which provides support during the summer months and tutors in math and language arts.

Candie Sanderson the outreach and engagement coordinator, guided the group since 2020, via the organization's Diversity, Equity, inclusion, and Global Education office.
“Min” took an early interest in helping others, which led him to his current position. He was very impressed by his classmates' enthusiasm and this idea was their very first.
Tutors are now offered to Massachusetts residents on the website. They offer tutoring services for all areas of study.
